The Naked Mole-Rat Letters
Uncategorized April 27th, 2007Where did Mary Amato get the idea to write The Naked Mole-Rat Letters? I went to her website (www.maryamato.com) and read that she actually based this book on a personal experience. Her mother died when she was ten years old and a few years later her dad starting receiving letters from a woman he met at a conference. She didn’t write to the mystery lady but wished she had. Mary Amato and her main character Frankie are different but do share a few things in common:
dulcimer – Mary plays the dulcimer but didn’t start playing as young as Frankie
The Miracle Worker – Mary also auditioned for a part in the play
cooking fires – There were 2 cooking fires in her house but nothing was destroyed.
What do you think of this story? Do you have anything in common with any of the characters? Has anything similar happened to you that happened in the story?

I thought the story, The Naked Mole-Rat Letters was a goood book. I liked the way that Mary Amato made the characters in the book act so real. One time, my older brother and my older sister almost started a fire on the stove when they were trying to make scrambled eggs.

I loved this book! I think this is going to be one of everyone’s favorite of the 07-08 nominees. I liked how the story consisted of emails and diary entries. I thought that the premise of the book was great. It was interesting to read that Mary Amato based this book on personal experiences.

I did like the fact that The Naked Mole- Rat Letters was based on Mrs.Amoto’s personal expeirence as a teen. I like that she wrote the book in three different ways, letters, diary entrees, and e-mail. I also like that she told more of the story in the e-mail format. Man, I wish I could do that more often.
