And the Winner is…
Uncategorized April 22nd, 2007Hi,
Last week I attended the Missouri Association of School Librarian’s Conference. Monday night was the Readers Award Banquet. I was so disappointed that none of the authors of last year’s winning books were at the banquet. We did get to preview the video introducing the 2007-08 Mark Twain Award nominees. That was fun!
This year 29,822 Missouri students in grades 4-8 participated in the Mark Twain program. Here are this year’s voting results:
3rd place – Toes 2548 votes
2nd place – The Old Willis Place 4336 votes
1st place – Abduction by Peg Kehret 5442 votes

What do you think about Abduction winning?

I think that Abduction is a really good book. In my opinion, The Old Willis Place should have won. But Abduction was a really good book and full of a lot of action and adventure. I think Abduction was a good choice, but not the best in my opinion.

I thought that Abduction winning was interesting. Abduction was not my first choice, but it was a pretty good book. This book was like an adventure and a lot of action. Out of a 1-5, 5 being the best, I give this book a 3.

The winning of Abduction was ok, but I liked Toes better because Toes is a cat with 7 toes on each paw and is very smart and helpful. Abduction wasn’t very interesting to me so I thought it was boring. Abduction was not the type of book I liked.

I am glad that Abduction won. It is very good. Our teacher read it to us. It has a great plot to the book. It makes you want to read it over and over again. It is one of my favorite books.

I was glad that Abduction won because it was a great book. Miss Ryan read it to our class and we loved it! The book won first place so I wasn’t the only one who liked it. The other books were good so I’m glad that they got third and second.

I am happy that Abduction won the Mark Twain Award. I thought that Abduction was a well-developed book. It had a lot of details and it had a message about “stranger danger.” Actually, I think that all the books were great. But I am still glad that Abduction won the Mark Twain Award.

Thank you for your great comments! This is the 2nd time a book written by Peg Kehret has won the Mark Twain Award. In 1999 Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio, which is her autobiography, was the winner. Has anyone read that book?

I am glad Peg Kehrets book won. I really enjoyed her book Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio, matter of fact I bought it and have read it again and again. I also liked her book My Brother Made Me Do It, because she really made the reader feel the emotions going on. I also loved the book Abduction, and I am glad it had a good ending. I hope her books win another award. Peg Kehret is an awesome writer, and she really gets the reader into her books, and into the character’s point of view. Go Mark Twain books.

I liked this book because it teaches you to stay away from strangers. Peg Kehret is a good writer and I read one of her other books, but I forgot what it was called but it was a great book. I am glad it won the Mark Twain Award and in my opinion that was the best book I ever read. That book had a great ending and it was awesome. The book when you read it, it makes you want to read it over and over again. The book shows that you should stay away from strangers.

I agree with Mrs. Sullivan. I thought there were a lot of great books this year. Abduction was the first book by Peg Kehret that I have read. I can’t wait to read some more.

I thought this was an absolutly amazing book! I loved all the action involved. And I also liked how they showed great details in the characters emotion. I think this is one of my favorite books so far. I give this book a big THUMBS UP! I also like how it teaches about strangers. I also want to read The Ghost’s Grave.. that also looks like a very good book.

My 4th and 5th grade teacher, Ms.Strub, read us Small Steps in 4th grade. I liked the book, but I had no idea it was by Peg Kehret. Was she really paralyzed? She must be proud of herself for winning the 2007 Mark Twain Award. She is a great author.
